With OpenAI’s ‘Shipmas’ event in full swing, several impactful updates to ChatGPT and related tools are already available. Here’s a breakdown of the latest features and enhancements you can start using today.

GPT Web Search

Clicking on the “Search the Web” Icon inside your ChatGPT interface will effectively convert that session to a search engine similar to Google.  The relevance and usefulness of responses has exceeded Google’s and Perplexity’s offerings, with the added benefit of speed and lack of ads.  This function is available in the GPT4 series of models, and is highly recommended for search engine needs.

o1 Model Full Release

The o1 model, OpenAI’s advanced reasoning tool, is now fully released. It excels in coding, mathematics, and providing concise, accurate responses. Available to ChatGPT Plus, Teams, and Enterprise users, it’s highly recommended as a default model unless a specialized tool is required.

ChatGPT Pro was also released, a $200/month subscription tier, providing unlimited access to the o1 model and the enhanced o1 Pro Model.

Canvas Tool Update

The collaborative Canvas tool is now available to all ChatGPT web users, enabling collaborative editing and refinement of text or code with the AI model. Important enhancements just released include:

  • Integration with user-created Custom GPTs
  • Support for additional programming languages
  • Direct execution of code (e.g., Python) within the Canvas interface for real-time testing.

Sora Public Launch

The AI video generator Sora was made publicly available, enabling users to create videos from text prompts, animate images, and remix videos. ChatGPT Plus subscribers can generate up to 50 videos per month at 720p resolution, while ChatGPT Pro subscribers have access to unlimited video generations at 1080p.
